History of our Club
On March 24th, 1982 six Forest and area residents gathered together for the purpose of forming a model airplane flying club. All six had been interested in the hobby for some time and had been using facilities in London, a round trip of approx. 100 km..
They felt that the time had come for the group to have a flying field of their own nearby. Arrangements had been made to lease space on a farm about a mile North of Forest.
The club would be known as The Forest Lakeside Flyers and would be affiliated with M.A.A.C.
The club prospered, and in 1990, a new larger flying field site was found. The location on the Proof Line Road, west of Highway 21, is still in use and was extended in 1996 to allow events to be held in a way that meets new Insurance requirements. The membership increased and now stands at 24 including 5 of the charter members.
The following year, 1991, the club held its first Scale Rally to provide members and visitors from other clubs the opportunity to display the effort of many hours of their work. As noted above the field is located close to county Highway 21 - also known as the Bluewater Highway - which, in summer is very heavily travelled by cottagers and other holiday-makers. This makes it easy to expose the hobby to the public with the hope that others may become interested.
The Scale Rally is held in July and always attracts pilots from surrounding clubs to demonstrate their well-crafted models to an appreciative crowd of spectators.
A Snow-Fly is held in February each year and a Fun-Fly is held in May. For further details refer to Upcoming Events.
We are a small club with a high level of participation by the members whose main objective is to have fun flying their models.
